15th March 2009 N Siddik   It’s more than two months now, Cricket has not only survived but found a space in Trigyn fort where the entertainment dried up few months back. Earlier also few attempts were made to make Cricket flourish however all failed. I remember atleast two attempts; the first one was played almost three years back at Juhu beach where the game was enjoyed but not what we can call it a professional cricket; the second attempt was made a year later when few players gathered to play the game again this time at play ground but it also didn’t survived. But this time Cricket knocked Trigyn’s door with totally new passion and I can see it is not going to go so soon. I have analyzed few factors which are responsible for this situation. Hard time: It is said that the relationship that build up in the worst time are hard to break. The same seems to apply to Trigyn Cricket this time. I remember the first match of this season. When we were gearing up, there appeared a hurdle ‘Petrol pump Strike’.  Means no communication; no vehicles reaching the ground; no means of transport; private vehicles too were out of petrol; But the enthusiasm was so great that alternatives were planned and this problem was resolved. As if this was not enough Ashwin Utagikar, who was responsible for the play-ground arrangement came up with the bad news. The ground which was supposed to be used for play was occupied by nearby school and is not opened for general public. However all praise to Ashwin U who found out the nearby alternative ground and I must say what an alternative it was. This ground laid the foundation stone for the matches to come. Senior Players Support: It is said that experience has no comparisons. What was remarkable from last season’s game was the support and enthusiasm of players like Gaurang Vyas and Ashwin Krishna. They not only drive the game but also make sure that the team unity, the fun and the enjoyment remains. With support from few other elder players like Narendra Gaware, Prashant Tulapurkar, Ramana, Sushilkumar time to time made the game more enjoyable. Ground Factor: Although the season started with the ground which was not initially intended for the play but it was a blessing in disguise. The most important thing Vidyanidhi ground at Juhu provided was privacy which means the whole ground was used by Trigynites only. This made the play more interesting as the coordination, cooperation and unity among the team developed. The need for this was felt when the team moved to new venue at BMC ground Malad(w) and found there lot of teams playing together. The team was not able to enjoy the game there and in between the match a need was felt for another ground which could be as private as before. And with great luck and efforts from Gaurang and Mahesh G similar ground was found out in the nearby vicinity which further allowed the game to flourish. Passion for play:  With all the factors in proper place if the players themselves have not taken personal interest then also the game would not have survived. Waking up so early in the morning, reaching ground from all over Mumbai leaving behind all the odds to spend few hours for the game is really appreciable. Some players like Ashok spend nights at office to complete their professional assignments but reaches the ground next morning and some like Rohan after playing the match reaches to office. There are a lot of examples however at this point I cannot stop myself mentioning Amit Shedge’s passion for the game. He was out of the city for attending a marriage in Surat. But with consciousness of not to miss the match next morning, he decided to catch the train at night. Unfortunately the train was jam-packed and he has to keep standing for 4 hours from Surat to Mumbai. He reached his home at 4:30 in the morning and decided to reach the ground after couple of hours to participate in the match. Although the effect of his tiredness affected his game that day but these are the type of players who have shouldered this event. Exciting games: And with all these factors in place, exciting games were like extra cheese toppings over the pizza. Always there is one or more happenings each match which kept the players interest binded. Media Exposure: The maintenance of the score and the statistics has given more professional look to the game. With ratings-rankings in place and with the launch of the website it has crossed the boundaries to reach anywhere anytime.  |
